Washington DC is largely associated with politics and being the hub for things like protests and controversial events. Putting some of the recent past political tensions aside, the capital city of the United States is a spectacular place to live and has maintained that reputation through decades. Here are the main reasons why you might want to consider calling the capital city your new home!

    1. Job Opportunities

Washington, DC’s strongest offering when it comes to employment is in the federal government sector, with 140,000 employees working in the industry locally. Having said that, if government and politics aren’t your thing, you still have access to growing industries in the region ranging from business to restaurants to the arts, and everything in between. There is significant job stability here, as well as a fairly high median income at over $85,000 a year.

    2. Transportation

If the job stability doesn’t entice you to look at Washington, DC Houses for Sale, the transportation in the city sure will! First of all, Washington DC is known as a biker’s paradise, with over sixty miles of biking and pedestrian trails and a tendency for residents to bike to work and activities. The city is the third most friendly to bicycle riders in the entire country. When it comes to less hands-on modes of travel, the honest answer is that driving in traffic can be pretty hectic. However, DC’s public transportation is regularly voted as the best in the nation, which is saying something, considering their weekly ridership of over 800,000 people! They also have what is considered to be the fastest commute time in the country.

    3. The Arts

Galleries and Museums are abundant in Washington, DC. Some notable places to visit include the National Gallery of Art, National Museum of African American History, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Air and Space Museum, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, and many more.

    4. History

If you are a history buff or even mildly curious about the founding and inner workings of the country, then the capital city is an excellent place to visit or relocate to. Tours are given at countless venues to put things in historical context for you. Some great locations include the Washington DC monuments and Arlington National Cemetery.

    5. Safety

While it is true that areas of Washington DC have high crime rates, the trick is to know which area is which, since the danger is not evenly distributed. In fact, some areas have 60% less crime than others. Some safe and friendly neighborhoods in DC include Georgetown, Friendship Heights, and The Palisades.

    6. Greenspace

Here’s an awesome fact you probably didn’t know: every resident of Washington DC lives within a ten minute walk of a park. Greenspace makes up 20% of the city! Notable places to visit include the National Zoological Park, National Arboretum, Rock Creek Park, Lincoln Park, the Constitution Gardens, and Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens, to name a few.
